My entire family is the product of the public school system. I attended K-12 in the Anderson school districts, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and an additional bachelors and a doctorate from the University of California at San Francisco. My wife of 30 years, Teresa, likewise attended K-12 in the Bay Area public schools and is also a UC Davis graduate.  We have five wonderful children, all of whom graduated from the Grant and Shasta Union High School Districts and are attending or graduated from the UC system. I feel we were all well prepared for our post high school experiences, and I want to assure this success to future Shasta County graduates.

Needless to say, I am a firm believer in the California public education system and look forward to seeing our schools continue to work well in educating “our” kids. Whether these students are on to college, career, or military service, my goal is to enable them to be fully prepared to fulfill their dreams after they graduate from the Shasta Union High School District.

I am truly energized by the opportunity to serve as a SUHSD Board trustee. I appreciate the collaborative effort required to ensure the success and opportunity for growth of our children. My involvement with the SUHSD Board is driven by a desire to provide the type of educational experience that breeds inspirational individuals beyond high school. My background includes a heavy commitment to our youth, including coaching athletics, board service and non-profit work.

I graduated from California State University Sacramento.  Subsequently, I secured my J.D. from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Outside of my Board service, I am a practicing Attorney with my own law offices serving Shasta County, Humboldt County, and the surrounding areas. My professional experience lends incite to dispute resolution and attention to ethics, fairness, and a balancing of different perspectives.

My remarkable wife Cristie works for Enterprise Elementary School District and we have resided in Shasta County for over 16 years. We have two children, Ethan (8th Grader), and Joseph (10th Grader in Shasta Union High School District). We stay busy taking advantage of the local outdoor recreation, and attending the boy's extracurricular and sporting events.

I am honored to help foster the importance of making sure the children in our community have a solid foundation during their educational years.  Serving as a board member is both an honor and a privilege, as well as a commitment I do not take lightly. I feel strongly that our children are the pathway to the future and firmly believe it is our responsibility to invest in their growth and development.

I was born and raised in Sacramento, moved to Chico in 1994 to pursue my college education then made the move to Redding in 2001 to further my career and start a family. Both my children were born in Redding and I have thoroughly enjoyed raising them here and watching them excel in school and sports.

I have very strong ties to the North State having worked here for Caltrans since 2001 where I have worked in the transportation planning division and am currently managing transportation funding programs and oversee local projects. My career has afforded me many great opportunities, allowing me to work with a wide range of internal and external partners and be a true public servant. In addition to my full-time job at Caltrans, I have been an indoor cycling instructor at the Shasta Family YMCA since 2008. My family is very involved in the community and I pledge to do all I can to nurture the success of this community’s children!

It cannot be said often enough, that the future success of our nation depends upon how well we educate our young people today. The challenges and opportunities our students will face, after they graduate from high school, are difficult for us to foresee. It is our responsibility as parents, teachers, administrators and trustees to ensure that our students have the tools to compete and succeed in the rapidly changing economic landscape. Our students, in the Shasta Union High School District, are fortunate to have dedicated teachers, staff and administrators who truly care about students and their future success. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work together with all of these talented people, to provide our students with the best that the educational community has to offer.
Our family moved to Palo Cedro in 1996. We feel very blessed to live in an area with such magnificent natural beauty. We have three terrific kids, all attending high school at present. Therefore, my hobbies are, helping with homework, attending athletic events, volunteering at school, raising swine for 4-H and caring for two dogs, two ducks, a cat, four doves and a rabbit.

It is an honor to have been given the opportunity to serve on the Shasta Union High School District Board of Trustees. I am passionate about education and believe that a strong educational foundation is the answer to many challenges that we have in our society. For almost 10 years, I have been working to save lives, through blood donation, with my job at BloodSource. I love participating in our community constantly looking at how we can continue to grow. I have the privilege of currently serving on the First 5 Shasta Commission, the Shasta County Public Health Board, and the Shasta College Citizen Bond Oversight Committee. I am a proud member of the Redding Rotary club and am a member of other industry associations.

I am an alumnus of the Sierra Health Foundation Health Leadership Program and I have graduate certificates in Non-Profit Marketing and Fundraising from California State University, Long Beach, and the Fundraising School at Indiana University. I am also an adjunct professor for Brandman University and Simpson University, teaching graduate courses in organizational leadership.

I am a graduate of Chapman University with a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and have an MBA from Brandman University. I currently reside in Redding, CA with my wife Kara of more than 20 years and our four children, 3 cats and a dog.
